How long does it take to register stuffed articles?

Manufacturers of stuffed bedding, furniture, toys and quilted clothing may be able to register and obtain a URN in as little as 5-10 business days.

Once your Uniform Registry Number (URN) has been filed with the regulatory agencies, you can legally start shipping and selling stuffed articles in the United States. You do not need to wait to physically receive those licenses.

Here is how to get started so you can start selling your products as soon as possible.

Step 1: Create your account and get a quote

The first step toward registration is to create an account with Global Registration Services. In a matter of minutes, you will be able to generate a custom quote for full U.S. registration as a Manufacturer, Importer or Distributor.

Step 2: Sign application forms

Once you have created your account and paid your quote, the New Registration team at GRS will complete your application paperwork and email it to you for signature.

Sometimes this requires you to communicate with factories overseas to obtain signatures from their owner/officer. The timeline for this step depends on how quickly all applications are signed.

Once you have obtained all of the required signatures, you will send the signed application forms to GRS. If your product is a stuffed toy, you will also send GRS a test sample.

At this time, you should also start thinking about your product’s law label. Every stuffed article requires a law label. If you do not already have one, our sister company American Law Label can design and print a law label for you. And if you already have a law label, we can provide a professional review to ensure that it will prevent violations.

Step 3: Your application is prepared and mailed

With your signed application forms, Global Registration Services will prepare your registration packets and mail them to each agency on your behalf.

You may be able to get a URN in as little as:

3-10 business days for stuffed bedding and furniture
7-10 business days for a quilted clothing permit
14-16 business days for stuffed toys

Once your URN has been filed with the agency, you can now legally ship and sell your product in the United States. You do not need to wait to physically receive those licenses.

Step 4: Receive your license

When your application is approved and your license is issued, it will be mailed directly to the license holder at the address provided on your application.

If you selected to enroll in our License Management or Guaranteed Compliance subscriptions for post-registration renewal service, the licenses will instead be sent to GRS. We will upload them to your account for 24/7 online access.
